Improv Philosophy: A Word from Debra

In my first improv class in Washington D.C. a magical new world appeared. My classmates and I became more spontaneous and quick. We learned to work creatively, together as a team. The improv mentality empowers us to be totally present, kind to ourselves and others without judgement, and, of course, generate a ton of laughter and goodwill. Incorporating a “yes, and…” mindset is the foundational improv tool for fostering successful collaborative and inclusive interactions with colleagues and clients. I knew immediately that improv would be my life passion, and that I wanted to bring it to others.

More than 15 years later, I still perform and teach improv regularly.  I find great joy in combining my creative improv expertise with my knowledge of business and reporting to empower people to grow and become the best versions of themselves.

I am still excited every day about the class I created four years ago at Stanford Graduate School of Business. I see the amazing difference in students from the first to the last class. I am proud to also coach the school’s improv performing team.
